Relationships
How to Win Friends & Influence People - Dale Carnegie - Published in 1936, this book teaches you how to succeed through your connections and relationships with others. There is no filler and is a very practical guide to successful living.
Spirituality - Non Secular
The Power of Now - Eckhart Tolle - This book changed my life and continues to shape how I look at it every day. Eckhart Tolle is regarded, even in spiritual circles, to be a truly enlightened human being. This book carries a rare, and authentic message of truth on every page.
A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose - Eckhart Tolle - The follow-up to ‘The Power of Now’. Eckhart explains, in a practical way, how our ego operates in daily life. He then directs us to explore the possibility of a shift in consciousness towards discovering your life’s purpose.
The Heart of Stillness - David A. Cooper - The very first book I ever read about meditation. I’ve read it at least five times now! It covers many aspects of meditation - the ups and the downs. It is a magical and deeply peaceful book.
Seeking the Heart of Wisdom - A Path to Insight Meditation - Joseph Goldstein & Jack Kornfield - My favorite book on the subject of meditation.
Spirituality - Eastern
The Yoga Sutra - Patanjali - One of the most enlightened spiritual documents of all time. Written over two thousand years ago, it is the source of all yoga known today - East or West. Essential!
The Myth of Freedom - Chogyam Trungpa - This book challenges your notion that you are free to make choices. It brings to light the patterns, habits, and chains that bind you from being free to choose. A powerful book by a Tibetan Buddhist master.
The Experience of Insight - Joseph Goldstein - A simple, direct, and practical instruction on Buddhist insight meditation.
Creativity
The Listening Book - W.A. Mathieu - The Listening Book is about rediscovering the power of listening as an instrument of self-discovery and personal transformation. This author loves sound and music.
Metaphysics / Psychology
The Crack in the Cosmic Egg - Joseph Chilton Pearce - This book defines our “cosmic egg” as the “sum total of our notions of what the world is.” It surrounds and comforts us, but it is our mind’s prison. Only when the egg cracks and our reality breaks apart is the mind open to achieve its full potential.
Addiction Recovery
The Big Book - Alcoholics Anonymous - The book upon which AA is founded. The twelve step program and the solution to alcoholism is written on these pages.
Easy Way to Stop Smoking - Allen Carr - This book has been responsible for dozens of my friends and colleagues successful cessation from smoking. The ideas contained are simple but revolutionary. I’ve used it successfully and I hope you do too.
Health & Fitness
The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding - Arnold Schwarzenegger - Whether you like or hate the bodybuilder aesthetic, this is still the most comprehensive book on the subject of weight training. It is clearly written, training methods are well defined, and the whole book is full of photos to help you understand different exercises.
Stretching - Bob Anderson - Thank God, my chiropractor introduced me to this one! Whether you’ve got tight muscles, you need to relax, or improve your overall flexibility and health, ‘Stretching’ has got it all. It’s simply laid out and well illustrated. A great book, especially if you have back pain and need to know exactly how to feel better.
Light on Yoga - B.K.S. Iyengar - B.K.S. Iyengar is one of the foremost living yoga masters. He has practiced and taught it for over 60 years. This book is an absolute must-read if you have any interest in practicing yoga yourself.
