One Minute Motivator - Overcoming Adversity

November 17th, 2007 · No Comments

Overcoming adversity can become a habit, just as running from adversity can become a habit. Look around you and see if you don’t notice people who seem to fall into one of these two categories. Some people seem to thrive on adversity, they love a challenge, they almost look forward to problems, and when adversity hits, they throw themselves into finding the “fix”. Other people seem to run from problems almost out of reflex. Habits can work for you or against you, so make overcoming adversity a habit, and it will work for you.

One Minute Motivator - No Story, No Problem

November 16th, 2007 · No Comments

There is no real story without a problem. Have you noticed that in any story, from the movie “The Titanic” to any of the background material on people in the Olympics, everyone has to overcome a problem, or at least struggle with a problem, for it to be interesting. The same is true for our lives as well. If you didn’t have problems, you life wouldn’t be very interesting. You wouldn’t have any challenges, anything to keep you sharp, etc. You would be bored out of your mind. The big thing you would miss if you didn’t have problems is PRIDE. You feel good when you overcome problems, you self worth shoots up and you get a real glow, if you solve a problem. And the worse the problem, the better the feeling. Somehow the pain of solving the problem fades away, but the pride you felt afterwards remains forever. So make problems your friend and you will bring a real glow to your life.

One Minute Motivator - If It’s To Be, It’s Up To Me

November 15th, 2007 · No Comments

Changing a few words can change your life for the better. Stop saying “if only,” and start saying, “If it’s to be, it’s up to me.” We all have tons of “if only’s,” such as “If only the boss liked me, I could move up,” or, “If only I could win the lottery, my life would be great.” The common theme is that we are relying on someone or something else to make our life good. Do you really think your boss, the government, or something else is going to come and save you? Relying on someone else to save you robs you of your self-esteem and a sense of control over you life. Once you take control of your life, you feel better and you begin to take steps to move ahead. So stop saying “if only,” and start saying, “If it’s to be, it’s up to me.”

One Minute Motivator - A Winner’s Eye View

November 14th, 2007 · No Comments

Don’t act like a loser, even if you are losing. Have a winner’s eye view of what you are doing. You want people to be around you, and they won’t be around if you act like a loser. You are not a loser, just because you lost, or are in the losing position. Keep your head up, focus on the positive and project a winner’s image. People can sense a loser, and they can sense a winner. Make it a winner that they sense.

One Minute Motivator - Do What You Say, Say What You Do

November 13th, 2007 · No Comments

Listen to what you say you are going to do and then watch what you actually do. Are you walking the walk, the same as you talk the talk. If not, take steps to do what you say you will do. Your self-esteem will go up and you will be motivated to do more, in addition to drawing other people to you because of your integrity. You need to make your behavior reflect your values. You will have inner and outer conflicts, if your beliefs, values, goals and most importantly, actions aren’t in agreement. Look at what you say and do, versus what you believe. Put all the pieces together and go forward as a team.

One Minute Motivator - Successful People Embrace Change

November 12th, 2007 · No Comments

Embrace change, you need it in order to be successful. If nothing changes, then nothing changes. If you want a different outcome, you have to do something different. Some of your habits and actions are working fine for you, but you probably have other habits or take other actions that don’t work for you. You need to change things, in order to create change for yourself. Look through the outcomes you are getting and see what you would like to be different, then work backwards and see what may be causing these unwanted outcomes. Perhaps you have to change your education, your friends, your work habits, whatever, but you will find that change is needed. Start to make those changes and you will find that things change for you.

One Minute Motivator - Negative Self-Talk

November 11th, 2007 · No Comments

Our negative self-talk does more damage to ourselves, than anything, anyone else can say about us. Our subconscious mind pays a great deal of attention to what we say and tends to accept what we say as true. If we say we can’t do something, our mind buys into that and goes on as if that were true. The reverse is also true, if we say we can do something, our mind goes on, operating as if we can do it. So be careful of what you say, your mind can and will use it against you or for you. Use assumptions to help you instead of hurting you. Most of assume the worst, when we think of a new idea for ourselves. We assume that people won’t like it, that it won’t work, it will be too expensive, and so on. Why not assume that everyone will like it, that it will work and it will come in under budget and ahead of schedule. A change to positive assumptions will give you the power to move ahead and make your ideas happen, so challenge any negative assumptions that come up and find positive assumptions to replace them.

One Minute Motivator - Finishing Feels Good

November 10th, 2007 · No Comments

If you want to really feel good, finish one of your projects. Quitting feels good, but finishing feels better. Sometimes we think of how good it would feel to give up on something we are doing. When that happens, take a moment and think of how good it would feel to finish the job, and savor that glow of accomplishment. Many times you will see it will feel better to accomplish something, then is does to quit. If you want more joy in your day, then find a challenge and overcome it. Boredom sets in when you aren’t challenged. You need to be stretched, to feel pride in what you are doing and who you are. Pick something a little harder than what you have been doing, work on it till you overcome it and see how you feel.

One Minute Motivator - You Are Bigger Than Your Problems

November 8th, 2007 · No Comments

You are bigger than your problems. Problems come at you in one area, but you have many areas to pull from to overcome them. You might have a physical problem, but you not only have your body, but also your brain to help overcome it. You might have a financial problem, but you have your body, your brain, your personality, your support groups, your education, and so on. Problems can seem overwhelming, but step back and ask yourself what resources you have at hand to begin to work on them.
