If you want to grow, put yourself at risk every day. These risks do not have to be big risks; smaller scale risks will work just fine. Things like talking to someone new, reading something your wouldn’t normally read, etc. The only criteria is that should be something you felt a little uncomfortable doing and has the possibility, of leading to some new knowledge or experience. If you try something you were afraid to try, you will build your self-confidence, while gaining new information; you can use to work towards your goals.

One Minute Motivator - Using Aggravations as Healthy Reminders
October 29th, 2007 · No Comments
When something aggravating, such as a siren, car alarm, etc, bothers you, that is a good time to check to see if what you were doing at that moment, was something that will take you away from your aggravations and towards your goals. So the next time something aggravates you, use that as a check to see if you actions are going in the right direction, or not. In that way, life’s aggravations can become good reminders to stay on the course towards a better life.

One Minute Motivator - Know the Reasons for Your Goal
October 26th, 2007 · No Comments
Know the reason you have a goal and keep reminding yourself of those reasons. Having a goal is great, but what you really want to have is the reasons you want the goal. The reasons will give you the fuel to survive the setbacks that are bound to happen. Develop the reasons why you want to accomplish, what you want to accomplish. This will give you the discipline and desire to accomplish what you want.

One Minute Motivator - Who Are You Following Today?
October 22nd, 2007 · No Comments
Be careful whom you follow and pattern yourself after. Who are you following today? Are you following the people that are going for their dreams, or are you following people that have given up on their dreams. Are you in competition with someone? If so, what is the competition leading to, a better job, better health, etc, or will it lead to hurting your chances of success, or hurting your body? Ask yourself whom you are paying attention to and whom are you following, and where will it lead?

One Minute Motivator - Be “Into” Your Life
October 19th, 2007 · No Comments
Choose to be “into” your life. Don’t float through your life, just getting by. Be “into” all aspects of your life, so you are fascinated by what is going on in your life and around you. Be curious about your work, or your school assignments, etc. Take the time to look at things from a different angle, to watch the processes you and the things around you, go through. Look at how your body is changing; look at how the world is changing. While the rest of the world is being average, you should be interested. If you need to change things to make them interesting, get interested in developing a plan to start that change. Make people wonder what is wrong with you, make them wonder why you are not like them, why you care about what you do and who you are. Be “into” your life and you will find that the world is “into” you.

One Minute Motivator - After Action Reviews
October 14th, 2007 · No Comments
Incorporate “after action reviews” into your life. The military uses these to analyze how an operation went. They ask:
1. What was our objective?
2. What actually happened?
3. Why did it happen?
4. What are we going to do next time?
You can use these same questions to review how things are going in your life. This prevents you from making the same mistakes over and over again, and builds on your successes. You can do more of what worked and less of what didn’t work. So incorporate AAR’s into your life and move your life ahead even faster.

One Minute Motivator - An Idea Isn’t a Plan
October 12th, 2007 · No Comments
Don’t confuse having and idea with having a plan. You need an idea first, and that is of key importance. But if you are going to turn your idea into reality it is going to take a plan and of course action on the plan. Many times the idea comes to us easily, in fact it almost hits us over the head. On the other hand, making a plan, takes real work carried out over a period of time, and stopping at any point along the way dooms your idea to an early death. Things like budgets, timetables, contingencies, etc, are not as much fun as having the big idea, so keep thinking of the final outcome your idea will generate and keep working to turn you idea into an action plan. And then do it.

Having an agenda, is given a bad name, but in fact it is a great thing. Having an agenda, means you have thought out goals, and are taking action to make it happen. You are taking the events that come along in the course of a day, and reacting to them in light of your goals and objectives. But in order to have an agenda, you need to know what your goals and objectives are, so take some time to establish these, then go out into the world with an agenda and you will be on your way to the top.

Music is Life
September 23rd, 2007 · No Comments
When I go to a funeral, I listen to the music. The music we listen to is a reflection of the life we have lived.
I love music. Life without music is no life at all. We all have a theme song. We walk around every day, singing and humming our favorite tunes. Many times I’ve been stuck on a song I wished I could get out of my head, but couldn’t. These are the songs that define us.
I remember music in the car in the middle of the night, at my wedding, and in my head during the birth of my son.
What song do you want played at your funeral?

Hacking God and the Game of Life
August 25th, 2007 · 1 Comment
A hacker is an inquisitive explorer of computer systems and networks. All hackers have the strong desire to learn how things work by taking them apart and then putting them back together in new or interesting ways. They are compulsive programmers - solving software and network problems for the sheer thrill of discovery. Hackers collaborate freely, and build upon each other’s work. The very heart of hacking is built upon openness, collaboration, and rapid discovery. These principles are the foundation for open source software - programs that are free to use and modify. You can make any changes you like to the source code and even sell your software, but you must provide all of your source code to the community for free as well. Here is a very short list of technology created by the hacking community in the open source domain:
* The Internet
* Usenet
* The UNIX operating system. Do you use a Mac computer? It operates on a proprietary version of UNIX.
* Sendmail (Email)
* The Linux operating system - a derivative of UNIX. Everything from BMW automobiles to Sony PSP’s use Linux to operate.
* Apache web servers, the PHP scripting language, and MySQL databases form the bulk of all worldwide web services.
* Firefox and Mozilla browsers
